Project

Elliot Lake Recreation Centre and Library

The existing facilities in Elliot Lake included an indoor pool, an arena, Collins Hall and a library which were all physically and functionally well past the end of their effective service life. The pool and library are particularly deficient and require new facilities that represent ‘best practices’ of architectural and functional design.

The planned facility will measure approximately 7,430 gross SM in area and contain the following components:

  • Multi-purpose room

  • NHL sized ice arena (one sheet) with 6 change rooms and seating for 500 spectators

  • Library

  • Public Lobby area with food services, information center and social arenas

  • Support spaces

  • 6 lane 25 m pool capable of staging a wide range of aquatic programs

  • Shallow water pool for therapeutic and adapted programs (total aquatic area estimated to be 1,400 SM)

  • Single court gymnasium

The new Centre is to be designed in a manner that minimizes environmental costs and maximizes financial sustainability. The estimated capital cost of the building is approximately $27 million.
