Johnston Sport Architecture Inc. was retained as a specialty sport consultant in several aspects of the development of the Olympic Oval for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. The firm prepared a revised functional program as well as a review of the operational model for the 195,000 sf oval. In addition, Cannon worked as a member of the design team to develop a highly functional sport facility, including providing assistance in developing planning schemes, concept and schematic drawings, functional relationships, vertical separation of user groups, access/egress concerns, and the establishment of criteria for mechanical and electrical building systems.

Johnston Sport Architecture Inc.’s engagement also included the design and specification of all sports fittings and equipment including: seating systems, locker and change room areas, rink board systems, and skate sharpening equipment.

During construction Johnston Sport Architecture Inc. also provided on-site field services during the critical aspect of the installation of the sport specialty fixtures and equipment, in particular the refrigerated slab.
